Recently the UK government has expanded the existing Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) to further benefit state-funded schools, nurseries, and academies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This grant has been extended specifically to offer increased financial assistance to install electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure on school grounds. This grant is set to be available until the 31st March 2025. In this guide we will cover all the key details of grant below:

    • Confirmed by an installer

What you can receive

The extension of the WCS grant offers a substantial increase in support compared to previously available. Raising from £350 up to £2,500 per socket or 75% of the installation. With a maximum of 40 sockets being allowed. This amount would include the number of sockets installed though the past WCS grant.

The Benefits

There are a large range of benefits that come from installing EV charging at your institution. Some of the biggest benefits include:

  • Environmental Impact: By encouraging your staff and visitors to switch to EVs, your school can reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment.
  • Cost Savings: EVs generally have lower running costs compared to ‘traditional’ vehicles, potentially leading to long-term financial benefits.
  • Revenue Generation: Your school can choose to offer public charging services during off-peak hours, generating additional income.
  • Talent Attraction: Demonstrating a commitment to sustainability can be attractive to potential staff and families to the school.
  • Future-Proofing: Having charging infrastructure in place prepares your school for the increasing popularity of EVs.

Applying for the grant
