How Many Electric Charge Points Does My Business Need?

As the world moves increasingly towards electric vehicles, it’s important for businesses to be prepared. If you’re thinking of installing electric charge points at your business, you may be wondering how many you need. There are a few factors to consider when making this decision.

We’ll break down everything you need to know about choosing the right number of electric charge points for your business.

The advantages of installing EV charging points at your business are endless. It can attract customers and encourage them to stay longer – a huge bonus for customer-focused businesses such as restaurants or shops as you could see an increase in sales!

It’s also a great way to show any prospective clients that you are committed to helping the environment and are forward thinking by planning for the future, especially if your brand message is all about sustainability.

It will also help your employees too because they can get their cars charged for free whilst at work -an added incentive for current or future staff, especially in today’s economy! The benefits may not end there, with possible tax and financial advantages for businesses who encourage employees to use EV, it’s a smart choice for everyone.

If you are worried that your charging points will become attractive to everyone you needn’t worry because you can have full control over who uses them! There are simple access controls with user identification to ensure only your employees and clients get the benefit of your electricity.

But how many do you actually need to provide? Well, the UK government has agreed to ensure that any existing Non-Residential Building that has more than 20 car parking bays will be required to provide at least one charging point by 2025. However, these rules differ for new buildings or those undergoing renovation which require one active charging bay but also have provisions for 1 in 5 passive bays (basically the cables will be fitted underground ready for future expansions). Is one charging point enough though?

Well, the first thing you need to consider is the size of your business. If you have a large car park or garage, you may need more charge points than a smaller business. You’ll also need to think about how many employees or customers you have who drive electric vehicles. If you only have a few, you may not need as many charge points as a business that has dozens of employees or customers who drive electric vehicles.

Another factor to consider is how often your employees or customers will need to use the charge points. If they’ll only be using them occasionally, you may not need as many as if they’ll be using them multiple times throughout the day.

You’ll also want to think about the type of business you have. If you have a high-traffic business, such as a restaurant or retail store, you may need more charge points so that people can charge their vehicles while they’re shopping or eating.

Finally, what’s your business hours? If you’re open 24 hours, then you’ll need to make sure you have enough charge points to accommodate people who need to charge their vehicles overnight.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how many electric charging points your business needs.

The number of charging points you’ll need depends on factors like the size of your business, your location and business hours, how many employees or customers drive electric vehicles, and how often they’ll need to use the charge points. By taking all of these factors into consideration, you can make an informed decision about how many electric charging points your business needs.
